Every opening on Packs.com is generated from three ingredients: a server seed (ours), a client seed (yours) and a nonce (a counter). You control your client seed, and you can check the rest at any time. This article covers the settings; the Provably Fair article explains the math and how to verify a result step by step.
Where to find your settings
Go to Profile → Fairness. You'll see:
Games with current seed pair – how many openings have used your current seeds (this is the nonce).
Hashed Server Seed – the SHA-256 hash of our current secret server seed. We publish the hash before you open anything, so we can't swap the seed afterwards without the hash no longer matching.
Client Seed – your current seed, with a copy button.
New Client Seed – where you can set a new one.
The Fairness Info panel on any pack page shows the hashed server seed and lets you edit your client seed too.
Changing your client seed
Under New Client Seed, either type your own value or click Generate for a random one.
Click Update.
Your client seed is mixed into every result, so changing it changes the outcomes of your future openings – that's the point: it proves we couldn't have pre-computed your results. The Fairness Info panel will nudge you if your seed hasn't changed in over a week, but you can keep the same one as long as you like.
What does "Rotate" do?
Rotate retires the current server seed and generates a new one. The retired seed is revealed in plain text so you can verify past openings against the hash you saw earlier.
On Packs.com a fresh server seed is issued automatically after every opening, so the seed used for a result is already revealed in that opening's details. Rotate is there if you want to force a new seed manually – for example, before a big opening – but you never need to press it to verify a result.
Verifying a specific opening
Open Profile → Openings, click Details on the opening, and use the Verify Fairness button. The full walkthrough is in the Provably Fair article.
